Binding

Typical Holkham binding of brown leather, with Coke family ostrich crest in gilt in the centre of the upper cover; Date: early nineteenth century. Rebound by John Jones of Liverpool (worked for Holkham 1816–1823. The spine lettered in gilt: S. CHRYSOSTOMI/ HOMILIÆ/ IN/ EVANGELIUM/ S. JOHANNIS./ GR.–M.S./ SÆC. X./ in pasted black leather: MS. /HOLKHAM/ Gr. /39

Ownership Notes: fol. 1r (at the bottom): handwritten note in black ink by B. de Montfaucon: 1698· Chrysostomus (Chrysostomi Hutter) in Joannem annorum plus 600. num. 10. + τοῦ θείου Ἰωάννου τοῦ θεολόγου τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τοῦ μακαρίου Ἰωάννου τοῦ Χρυσοστόμου/ ἡ ἐξήγησις, ἔστι δὲ καὶ κτήμα Ἰωάννου τοῦ Μορεζήνου. fol. 220r: the text is badly damaged, it is almost entirely illegible: + ι ὶ ερο έφων/ αφιεροθη τὸ παὸν λιν´ αηλ´./ α ξιων μοις α[μ]ην τὰ ἡμῖν: `ιλων·/τρ,ξι βουλὴν ιᾶση/ άγιω ον/ ντις`ἀ ἵ τρϊ ηλ´/ι η π`τερ` καὶ ησαν/ τ ωιση καὶ ἡμερι`/ ᾽ὶ ό μι καὶ ἕτων` τὴν θεοτόκον,/ ἰωδη των καὶ ἐν τη ὥρα ἄρα ημων α fol. 220v (15th c. hand): + ὁ ἐν ξένοις ξένος, καὶ ἐν μοναχοῖς ἐλάχιστος ἀμόναχος.
