Each letter is endorsed with a number in red at the top left corner corresponding to Maria Hungerford Pollen's list [see MS. 17906/1, fols. 1-4]. Comprises several bundles of letters wrapped in blue paper* labelled:

(fols. 1-16) '1868 - 1869 92 - 97'. Contains letters dated May 1868-Nov [1869].

(fols. 17-39) '1870 - 1873 incl. 98 - 105'. Contains letters dated Jan 1870-Jul 1873.

(fols. 40-63) '1874 106 - 114'. Contains letters dated Jan-Oct 1874.

(fols. 64-99) '1875 - 1879 115 - 126'. Contains letters dated Jun 1875-Feb 1879.

(fols. 100-117) '1880 (none) 1881 - 1883 127 - 132'. Contains letters dated Feb 1881-Dec 1883.

(fols. 118-153) '1884 - 1887 133 - 143 144'. Contains letters dated Apr 1884-Jan 1888. Envelopes attached [or formerly attached] to letters via small gummed strip.

*Please note that the blue paper wrappers have been foliated but have not been detailed in the item level descriptions. There are also several blank pieces of paper (used as bookmarks) which have been foliated but have not been given item level descriptions.
