Lessness Or Westwood, Kent, Augustinian abbey of St Thomas the Martyr: 'Hic liber est ecclesie beati Thome martyris de Liesnes. Quem qui ei abstulerit, aut illi super eo fraudem fecerit, nisi eidem ecclesie plene satisfecerit, anathema sit marantha'. (MLGB3: evidence from an ex-libris inscription or note of gift to an institution).

Owned by ' Roger Twysden 27. Febr. 1635.'

Sir John Sebright (1767-1846): his sale, April 1807, lot 1216; bought by Douce for 10s. 6d. (Douce Legacy, no. 216).

Summary

Comprises:

(fol. 1) A Commentary on the Apocalypse, by Berengaudos, or Berengoudas, whose name is given (see fol. 127) by combining the first letters of the seven divisions for the consonants, and assuming that the vowels with Greek values form together 81. Most of the text of the Apocalypse is introduced. The treatise has been ascribed to Berengarius of Tours and to st. Ambrose.

(fol. 129) '... Sermones Iohannis Chrisostomi de Laudibus Pauli.'

(fol. 153v) An anonymous sermon on Ps. xciii (xciv). 12: beg. after the text 'Homo enim cum sit rationalis.'.
