Summary

Lettered 'Sir John Williamson's State Letters to Sir Leoline Jenkins', but really the correspondence of Sir Joseph Williamson, secretary of state, with the English ambassadors at Nimeguen, September 18, 1677--February 8, 1678/9. This MS. continues the documentary history of the peace negotiations conducted at Nimeguen given in no. 16197 (MS. Clarendon 110), a volume covering the period Jan. 3 1676/7--June 14, 1677.

Two Phillipps MSS. bound in one:

P. 1. = Phillipps MS. 12137; Williamson's letters to Hyde and to Sir Leoline Jenkins, September 18, 1677--February 7, 1678/9. The dispatches to which these letters are replies are printed in Wm. Wynne's Life of Leoline Jenkins, 1724, vol. ii, pp. 212-548. Some of Williamson's letters to Hyde entered in this volume are also transcribed into the preceding one

P. 177. = Phillipps MS. 12138; correspondence of Williamson with Hyde and Godolphin, and of Williamson with sir William Temple, May 17, 1678--February 6, 1678/9

Some of Temple's letters to Williamson appear in the published collection of his works, but others are not in print.
