Custodial history

The following papers (SC no. 10786B) are among some described in an old catalogue of the St. Amand MSS., formed after they came into the Bodleian Library, which are not at present all identified, no. 1219:

Art. 2. 'Briefve Explication de l'Almanac Judaique & Roman par Jean Rose Ecossois daes aan 1630 ecrit.'

Art. 3. 'Common Place Book Lat. & English, begins with Adulation, end Voluptas.'

Art. 4. 'Abridgement of Dolmans (i.e. Parsons) Treatise on succession.'

Art. 15. 'Annals of Engd from 130 to 1666.'

Art. 16. 'Epitome of F. Pauls Hist, of Council of Trent. seed. 6.' [now partly MS. Rawl. D. 843, fols. 32-39.]

Art. 19. 'Memoirs of France from 1549 to 1562, sch. 3.'

Art. 21. 'Lease of MSS. [i.e. Mr. St.] Amand's House in East Street, 1738.' [now MS. Charters Middlesex 157.]

Art. 28. 'A compendious direction to the knowledge of profane history.'

Acquisition

St. Amand bequeathed his manuscripts and printed books to the Library in 1754, they were recieved in 1755.

This item was recorded in the Summary Catalogue as "among the library records" at the time of cataloguing and cannot be located: SC no. 10785: 'A catalogue of books' and A copy of the will of James St. Amand esq., written in 1754 partly by A. Cruden:

Fol. 1. 'A catalogue of books, being the valuable Library of the deceased James St. Amand Esquire, of East-Street near Red-Lion-Square in the Parish of St. George the Martyr at London: and left by his will to the Bodleian Library... & to Lincoln College. The Catalogue taken in September 1754 by Alexander Cruden, M.A.' The MSS. occupy 'No, 26', nos. 1189-1219: a few later papers are added
