The Commentary of Servius on Virgil, with the usual prologues
Shelfmark
MS. Add. D. 46
Summary
The Commentary of Servius on Virgil, with the usual prologues: the comm, on the Eclogues begins at fol. 1, that on the Georgies at fol. 15, that on the Aeneid at fol. 37v: the first two leaves are mutilated. The Life of Virgil attributed to Donatus precedes, and at the end after an excision is '... no 1430. 26 mensis Iunij. Johannes Moguntinus s[cripsit?]', of which passage a facsimile is given on pl. xxiv of the Libri Catalogue. The writing is in certain points purposely antique in style. Pasted on fol. i is a modern aquatint of Vesuvius in eruption, and people escaping in a boat, all within an elaborate border.
