Summary
Themes include:
(fol. 1) the Trinity
(fol. 13) Original Sin
Marriage (fol. 16v)
Baptism (fol. 37)
Holy Communion (fol. 49v)
Holy Orders (fol. 56v), etc.
Among the separate pieces are:
(fol. 71v) 'Versus de contemptu mundi', beg. 'Precipitem mundum fugiamus ut omne profundum'
(fol. 77) 'Vita sanctę Marię Ægyptia[cę]', by Hildebertus Cenomanensis: beg. 'Sicut hyemps laurum non urit, nec rogus aurum': ends, wanting at least one leaf, 'fastidit lubrica rerum'
(fol. 120v) 'De septem miraculis manufactis', by Bede: beg. 'Primum. Capitolium Romę.'
Short Latin poems are at fols. 71, 122. A 13th cent. list of contents (fol. iv) shows that part of the original volume is lost, and an inscription written in about A.D. 1300 proves that this book was probably in the library of st. Augustine's, Canterbury: 'D[istinctio] viii G[radus] v. Liber fratris I. Pistoris', the figures altered from iiii and iii respectively (?). A few leaves are cut into, and there are marginal additions.
'Iacobus Watts me iure tenet. Hoc non verum' (fol. 140v: 16th cent. ?).
Date
written early in the 13th cent.
