(fols 1–77) parchment, of varying thickness; some natural flaws and holes, (fol. 2) remnants of medieval repair (stitching holes); (fols 29, 30, 33, 34, 36, 39, 40 & 42) missing ends and edges made good before the ruling was applied and the text was written on.(fols 78–82) Paper, significantly smaller than the rest of the textblock; (fol. 79) remnants of a watermark in the upper left-hand corner, a small bull’s head with cross.

Further hands: 2) (fol. 73r) item 14, including the header on fol. 73v, from the Mainz Charterhouse, s. xv; 3) (fols 73v–74v) item 15, script of s. xiv; 4) (fols 74v–75r) item 16, two hands, changing on fol. 75r, l. 2; 5) (fol. 75r) item 17; 6) (fols 75v–76v) items 18 & 19, probably identical with hand 5; 7) responsible for the additions on fols 77ra–82ra (item 20) and the foliation (see above). ex;

Provenance
Mainz, Carthusian abbey of St Michael : the late 14th-cent. ex-libris inscription at the lower left-hand margin of fol. 74v: ‘codex cartusiensium moguncie’, and the 15th-cent. ex-libris inscription at the lower margin of 77v: ‘Liber iste pertinet ad carthusienses prope Mogunciam’. Identifiable as D VII T in cat. ii.
William Laud, 1573–1645 : Ex-libris, dated 1638, at the lower half of fol. 1r.
