Binding

Modern sewing; bound in German(?) dark gray patterned paper over pasteboards; the flat spine blank except for the shelfmark.

Acquisition

Purchased by the Bodeian for 10 shillings (Books Purchased (1840), 3). Former Bodleian shelfmarks: ‘VII. Q. 4. 44.’ (front pastedown), i.e. printed book Auct. 7Q 4.44; handed over to the Department of Western Manuscripts and accessioned with the current shelfmark on ‘15.iv.[19]41.’ (fol. 1r). Cf. ‘Notable Accessions’, BLR, 1 no. 15 (1941), 255–58.

Provenance

The two parts were presumably bound together from the beginning, as Part A has rubrics by Johannes Tüchler, who wrote Part B.

Perhaps belonged to the hospital of St Katherine in Regensburg, as suggested by Bod-Inc and MEI.

Probably identifiable as Sotheby's, 30 May 1840 ('... rare and curious books ... consigned from Germany'), lot 47.
