Decoration

Good borders.

Good initials. Calendar and tables imply 1430, but decoration may suggest a date as late as 15th century, third quarter. (Pächt and Alexander ii. 459)

Binding

16th century, second half, or 17th century, Italian: wood boards; polished brown leather, blind-tooled on each cover with lines and stamps (one stamp also used on spine and strap) around a centrepiece of the Crucifixion with Mary Magdalen and an urn; remains of two fore-edge clasps, the lower with brown leather strap and metal tip (upper lost, after 1897?); edges plain; binding fragments from a Latin liturgical manuscript, 14th/15th century, Italian. 147–148 99 c. 56–60 (book closed).
