Binding

15th century, third quarter, Italian (as MS.): wood boards with curved outside bevel; dark brown leather, blind-tooled with lines, punches and strapwork to form an eight-pointed star as centrepiece (Islamic influence?); four star-shaped bosses on each cover; two clasps with leather straps partly surviving after repairs; edges gilt and ?gauffered (very worn); remains of paper label on back cover. Extensive 20th-century repairs, spine re-laid. 228–229 135 c. 25 (book closed).
