Summary

Initials 'C.J.' and 'C.Jd.' are on fols. 7-9. An unfinished drawing [of Heidelberg] is on fol. 15. On fol. 25 are four small drawings, 'Speyer', 'Dryfels' [= Trifels] 'Kloster Limburg' [nr. Dürkheim] and 'Anweiler'. Fols. 11-12 and 26-29 were loose sheets kept in the book: fols. 11-12 are drawings at Speyer [by Cécile?] from which Felix copied figs. b and c in the diary (MS. M. Deneke Mendelssohn e. 6, fol. 3). Fols. 26-29 are sketches by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy: fol. 26 was reproduced in figs. o and p of the diary, fols. 12av and 12bv. Fol. 27 is of Todtenau in the Schwarzwald, the basis of the illustration in Felix's letter to Eduard Devrient of 3 May 1837. Fol. 29 is the sketch from which he made his watercolour in Cécile's 1836 album, 'In Schweizerthai bei St. Goar 3 Aug. 1837.' (MS. M. Deneke Mendelssohn c. 21, fol. 130).

Binding: quarter red morocco with gold tooling and marbled paper on boards. Fron cover: 'Cecile', in gold on red morocco panel. i + 30 leaves, interleaved with tissue paper which is not foliated. Watermark 'J.MR.'; loose leaves 26-29 'J. Whatman'.
