Shelfmark

MS. Rawl. C. 888

Summary

The "Table des chapitres" has been misplaced in binding, and now follows the commencement of chap. xiii.

The first page is occupied by a well-executed illumination, representing the King sitting on his throne, in front of a screen of green arras, with ten nobles, wearing the collar of the order, in a semi-circle before him.

On a fly-leaf at the beginning of the volume has been affixed, a Latin hymn, "De Sancto Theobaldo," in four stanzas and 28 lines, written in red, blue and gold, with a neat drawing in the margin of a knight in full armour, upon a white horse. Beg. "Ingenuosa sobole / Ex Provinno fauste natus, / Heros Theobaldus, prole / Ac mente nobilitatus."

The cover of the volume bears an engraved book-plate of the arms of Burnshed, viz., arg. three bends gules, on a canton of the first a lion passant of the second; crest a pheon.
