Summary

The Voluntary Emergency Services Policy Group was formed, 'to review the scope for voluntary emergency services as an outlet for public spirit in normal times and as an effective instrument of public service in times of disaster'. Members included David Renton, Lord Aberdare, Tufton Beamish, Antony Buck, J. d'Avigdor-Goldsmid, W.D. Griffiths, Lady Hamilton, Quinton Hogg, Neil Marten, Shelagh Roberts, E.D. Shire, Sidney Torrance and George Younger.

Sub-committee of the Policy Group on Voluntary Emergency Services: The Future of the Territorial Army Volunteer Reserve was set up in November 1968, 'to make broad recommendations as to the role, strength, structure and composition of a volunteer force to meet the needs of home defence and to form a basis for expansion of the Forces as a whole in emergency.' Members included Tufton Beamish, J.A d'Avigdor-Goldsmid, Eden Philip Goodhart, Neil Marten, James Ramsden, John Tilney, Lord Thurlow and George Younger.

The Voluntary Social Service Policy Group first met 25 June 1969, 'to examine the role of and scope for voluntary social service within the community; and to make recommendations.' Members included Lord Jellicoe, Mervyn Pike, Christopher Brocklebank-Fowler, Mrs. Cardno, Christopher Chataway, John Nott, Shelagh Roberts, Anthony Russel, Lord Sandford, Frederic Seebohm, Marcus Worsley, Christopher Patten and Rosemary Marten.
