Extracts from printed books chiefly in the hand of the first earl of Clarendon, 1646-73, almost entirely in English: Barclay's Argenis, Plutarch, Thucydides, Bacon, Albericus Gentilis, etc. At the beginning are:
'Of Robert Deuereux Earle of Essex and George Villiers Duke of Buckingham. Some obseruations by way of parallell ...' beg. 'Amonge those historicall imployments'
'The Difference and Disparity betweene the Estates and Condicions of George Duke of Buckingham and Robert Earle of Essex' beg. 'Though it shall appeare': both are copies endorsed
'For mr. Hide' and the latter was one of lord Clarendon's earliest compositions (about 1630-35?).
