i + 149 + i fol., a leaf missing after fol. 128 and 2 (?) at the end.

Hands

Written by two hands. The scribe of the main part begins the quires with the invocation O emmanuel in the right top corner of the 1st page (cut off on fols. 37, 97, 144), the second wrote fols. 109–31 with a markedly Irish hand (see also fol. 131v, 144).

Decoration

Good and other initials. (Pächt and Alexander iii. 1272, pl. CXVII)

A large coloured initial on the titlepage; others on fols. 9, 68v, 81, 114.

Musical notation

Point-neum notation of 12 staves of 4 red (37, green) lines. The clefs are indicated by letters, mostly b, D and d.

Acquisition

Bequeathed by him to the Bodleian.

Provenance

Pächt and Alexander suggested that the MS. was probably made for the Benedictine cathedral priory of Downpatrick, after 1183, but it has recently been attributed to Lismore Cathedral.
