Humanistic italic script.

Binding

Plain parchment over thin pasteboards; two ties at the fore-edge lacking; the spine inscribed in 19th-century ink from top to bottom 'INDVLGENTIA DELLA PORTIVNCVLA. MS. del Sec. XVI'; the pastedowns and conjoint flyleaves made from two whole leaves of an early 15th-century copy of Cicero written in a fine humanistic hand.

Acquisition

Sold by the Library at Sotheby's, 11 July 1978, lot 28, bought by Quaritch on behalf of the Bodleian.

Provenance

Inscribed 'No. 369.' 18th/19th century (fol. i verso).

J. O. Halliwell-Phillipps (1820–1889).

Presented by him to the Plymouth Proprietary Library, as recorded on a printed paper label, inscribed 'No.. 36.' and 'C1. .12.', another paper label is inscribed 'Glass Case | B. [crossed through and altered to J.] (cf. MS. Lat. misc. e. 127).
