Custodial history
These appear to be transcripts made for the Rev. William Murdin's Collection of Stale Papers in the reign of Elizabeth, 1571-1596 (London, 1759), continuing the Rev. Samuel Haynes's Collection, 1542-1570 (London, 1740), and to be the papers not printed by Murdin, either in order to contract the work within narrower limits, or because they were outside his period as finally determined.
The volumes bear the armorial bookplate of Dr. Martin Wall, and notes by him and Dr. Philip Bliss show that these copies belonged, after Murdin resigned his editorship, to his coadjutor Dr. Swithin Adee, and were given to Dr. Wall on the death of Dr. Adee's youngest daughter Catherine in 1822, by Sir David Smith, bart., of Alnwick, her executor.
