Summary

The charters range in date from 1147 to 1596, and are, according to the number in the printed Douce Catalogue of 1840, nos. 10-12, 18, 19, 21, 25-6, 28-31, 33-8, 43, 50, 55, 61, 65-94, 98.

Three have been added, which no doubt belonged to Douce: nos. 99 (deed by which Will. Bate of Hokytone gives to Agnes widow of Stephen le Welsse land in Wimpole, Jan. 25, 1333/4, in Latin); 100 (deed by which John de Playz kt. leases to Geoffrey Barbour land in Ramsey co. Essex, Oct. 23, 1366, in Latin): and 101 (certificate by Robard Banyngham and others that Nicholas Pekeryng, of Filby co. Norfolk, disallowed by anticipation (his dying words are recorded) claims on his property made by his son William, 15th cent., in English). [The remaining Douce charters have seals attached, and are arranged in drawers according to their nos.--except that no. 32 (apparently unsealed) is not at present traced: it is an indenture between the duke of Norfolk and earl of Arundel on the earl of Surrey's marriage with lady Mary, d. of the earl of Arundel, and bears date of 1 Apr. 1 Mary. E.W.B.N.]. 58 leaves with deeds attached.
