Hands

Devanāgarī, with some Jaina characteristics, in black and red ink. All the pieces were evidently written by one hand. His name is given on f. 54v: liṣatam ṛṣaharṣa (?) caṃdreṇa śrīpaṭṭaṇāṃmadhye bhātṛnihālacaṃdrayutena maṃgalaṃ bhuyāt sāhajīśrīsuṣadevapaṭhanārthaṃ |

Decoration

Ff. 24-47:Portraits, of the usual conventional type, of twenty-four Jinas: Ādinātha, Ajitanātha, Saṃbhavanātha, Abhinaṃdananātha, Sumatinātha, Padmaprabha, Supārśvanātha, Caṃdraprabha, Suvidhanātha, Sītalanātha, Sreyāṃsanātha, Vāsavapūjya, Vimalanātha, Anaṃtanātha, Dharmanātha, Śaṃtinātha, Kuṃthānātha, Arahanātha, Mallinātha, Munisuvrata, Naminātha, Neminātha, Pārsvanātha, Mahāvīra, each with a laṃchana. The latter are better drawn, but the spelling of their names is as inaccurate as in the case of the Jinas. On the back of each portrait is written the name of the subject in Persian characters, on the front in Sanskrit, with the name of the laṃchana.

Acquisition

The collection of Sir Gore Ouseley was purchased by the Bodleian in 1858.
