Good historiated initials (fol. 2, 126, 230, 340v, 378).

The rest flourished red and blue

Binding

blind stamped black leather over oak boards tooled with scrolls lettered ‘Mathias.’ Brass bosses, corner pieces and clasps with straps. Rebacked. For a list of books bound by Mathias see E. Kyriss, Verzierte Gotische Einbände, Stuttgart, 1951, pp. 44–5.

Bought, 1960.

Provenance

Ex libris of the Cathedral of Olmütz, Moravia, 17th century: ‘Ex Biblioth. Cathed. Eccl[esi]ce Olem’ (fol. 1). Another Olmütz book is Auct. Q. supra II.21.

Bertram, 4th Earl of Ashburnham, 1797–1878, acquired with the Barrois manuscripts in 1849.

Barrois-Ashburnham sale, Sotheby's 10 June 1901 and four following days, lot 247, bought by Tregaskis for £7 15s.
