Summary
(Begg. 'Horror, the pen of fate', 'As truth directs') the first signed 'P. Hayes, August 10. 1780', the second 'Perform'd as a Lecture May 6. 1785' with a note at fol. 37 'NB. This Introductory Symphony was originally composed for, and perform'd before, the Elegy, composed as an Exercise for my Doctor's Degree [6 Nov. 1777]. P. H.'
At fol. 61 is an 'Ode for St. Cecilia's Day written by Mr John Oldham ...' beg. 'Begin the song'), signed 'Phil: Hayes, finish'd Novr 19. 1779', 'begun Novr 8. 1779', 'Perform'd at the [Oxford Music] School as my Professorial Lecture for the term, on St. Cecilia's day Nov. 22. 1779', also Dec. 178- 'at the opening of the Music School after the alterations', 16 Dec. 1786, 13 Dec. 1787. All in full score.
