From a box entitled 'Mandela biog. tapes'. Interview with Dr. Neville Edward Alexander (founder of the National Liberation Front), who was imprisoned on Robben Island, 1964-1974. Alexander reminisces about his debates with Nelson Mandela in prison, c.1965, over the question of what constituted the South African nation, the definition of the term 'coloured people', the validity of the armed struggle, and how their positions changed over time. He comments on Mandela's leadership role in prison and describes individual warders and their relationships with the prisoners and intellectual life in prison, including their reading matter, 14 Oct. 1996.
