Provenance

Humfrey Newton (1466–1536) (on whom see Earwaker, 1877, I, 121–2).

The descendants of H. Newton, the Wards and the Bromley-Davenports, first at Pownall Hall, and later at Capesthorne (see Horwood, 1874, 80).

Lent in the mid-17th century to John Booth , the Cheshire antiquary, who suffered it 'to be destroyed with moisture and eaten with ratts' (fol. vi recto).
