Binding
Sewn on five cords, and bound in a typical Holkham binding of polished brown leather over pasteboards, framed with gilt fillets, the centre of the upper board stamped in gilt with the Coke crest; the spine lettered in gilt 'S. VICTORIS | DE | PERSECUTIONE | VANDALICA | HISTORIA || M.S.' with the number '461' at the bottom.
Provenance
Canons of S. Giovanni in Verdara, Padua , with a list on fol. 17r headed 'Iste sunt indulgentie concesse per romanos pontifices et alios primates omnibus uisitantibus ecclesiam sancti Iohannis de Verdara de pad' contritis et confessis.', the first item on the list is dated 1230.
Numerous marginalia by a variety of medieval and humanistic Italian hands.
The upper pastedown with the gilt booklabel of ' THOMAS WILLIAM COKE' (1754–1842) ; formerly Norfolk, Holkham Hall, MS. 461.
