Binding

Brown tanned calf over laminated pulpboard for Abp. Laud, 1637–1639.

Acquisition

Given to the Bodleian as part of his third donation, dispatched on 28 June 1639.

Provenance

Mainz, Carthusian abbey of St Michael: MS. Laud Misc. 506 consists of four fascicles, mainly containing sermons. The late 14th/early 15th-cent. list of contents at the upper half of fol. i recto (see A) Provenance) suggests that at least fascicles A–C were already bound together at the time when the inscription was inserted, at the Mainz Charterhouse.

William Laud, 1573–1645: Ex-libris inscription of Archbp. Laud, dated 1638, at the lower margin of fol. i verso.
