Summary
A revised and altered copy from the original MS., prepared for the press, with notes and remarks by the transcriber (apparently the former possessor, T. Haywood,) and two other writers.
The author is ascertained to have been John Pordage, M.D., from the following data. He is mentioned as a disciple of Jacob Boehm (fols. 45b, 51b); is continually alluded to as "the Dr."; and, which establishes the fact of his identity, reference is twice made (fols. 6b, 21) to a work by him bearing the title of "Theologia Mystica," this being the title of Pordage's book published in the year 1683. The transcriber refers at fol. 72b. to another work by the author of this treatise, entitled his "Apologetic to Mr. D.," and a note in a different hand, at fol. 50b, speaks further of his "treatise of the Dark World, which is design'd to be made publick in a little time, with his other works." Mention is made by the transcriber in several places (fols. 27b, 31b, etc.) of a "Mr. K." as being one of the examiners of this treatise: query, Dr. Keith?
