Summary
[Chaired by Lord (Max) Beloff of Wolvercote. The Group, along with seven others, was set up by the Chancellor of the Exchequer to 'prepare material that might be useful when the manifesto for the next election came to be written'. It consisted of a number of MPs, academics and members of the Conservative Research Department. The Group's report would 'not embody the result of detailed research, but simply set out a series of propositions which the group felt itself able to support.' It was allowed to take evidence from expert witnesses but secrecy was paramount, and its report needed to be completed by the beginning of March 1983]
