Acquisition
The volume was put up to auction (at Messrs. Puttick and Simpson's on July 2, 1884, lot 1065) as 'from the collection of the Rev. Charles St. Barbe Sydenham', with other Sydenham MSS., and the catalogue suggests that the poems are by the rev. Humphrey Sydenham, the 'Silver-tongued' (d. abt. 1650): he came up to Oxford in 1606, but is not known to have been at Winchester. Perhaps the numerous sets of verses are by several Wykehamists, but here copied out for private record by three or four friends.
Bought from Messrs. Puttick and Simpson's on July 2, 1884, for £6 15s.
