Summary
'Written with his owne hand. Jhon Daye': from the earliest times to 1564: beg. 'The ages of the worlde.' Fols. 140-153 are a separate late 15th cent. MS. on parchment, describing ceremonies in York cathedral (' Ordo episcopi proficiendi ad consecracionem', ' de oleo infirmorum', 'de oleo sancto', ' de consecracione crismatis', ' de salutacione & osculo crismatis', 'Forma intronizacionis [Joh. Kempe] archiepiscopi Ebor.' A.D. 1427): in A.D. 1697, there was also a Latin sermon of A.D. 1528 on 2 Cor. vi. 2. This parchment part seems to have belonged to some succentors of York cathedral, see fol. 145, 151, and to 'R. Remington' (16th cent.).
This volume appears to be no. 3, 5 or 20 of the list of books found in John Stowe's study in 1568 (Strype's Life of Grindal (1821), pp. 185, 516). The leather binding bears the arms of sir James Ware (d. 1632). The book was no. 31 of Henry Hyde lord Clarendon's MSS. in Bernard's Catal. MSSrum (1697), tom. ii, pt. 2, p. 6.
