Binding
Original boards and sewing; later white leather (about 1602?). Worn and repaired.
Acquisition
Presented in 1602 by the dean and chapter of Exeter; though not recorded in the Benefactors' Register, is in similar binding to the rest of the Exeter books.
Provenance
Hugh, archdeacon of Taunton (d. after 1236).
Given by him to Exeter Cathedral. Langbaine (MS. Langb. 5, p. 353.) gives an inscription now lost: "Hunc librum deo et ecclesie Petri Exon: dedit Hugo archidiaconus Taunton, ut usus eius pauperum, proprietas ipsius sit ecclesie". (MLGB3). Identifiable in the catalogues of 1327 (?) and 1506 (MLGB3; Oliver's Bishops of Exeter (1861), pp. 308, 373).
