00.01.52-00.44.00 speech by Macmillan, praising the beauty of the country and the warmth of the welcome he has received, and referring to economic growth; strong trade links with Britain; South Africa's contribution to both world wars and the Korean war; emerging nation states in Africa ('The wind of change is blowing through this continent') which cannot be ignored and must be accepted; the British Foreign Secretary, Selwyn Lloyd's, speech to the United Nations in Sep. 1959, in which he stated that Britain rejects the notion of racial superiority; isolationism being out of date in the modern world; and all men having the right to reach their full potential. He goes on to say that he is against any consumer boycott against South Africa and would not use this method to try to influence the internal politics of another country. He refers to the strength of the Commonwealth lying in its free association of free states and hopes that they can continue in friendship though their policies differ.
