Comprises:

Folder 1: Material relating to illustrations, mainly photographs of illustrations from historic children's books, blockmaker's pulls, printing proofs; also includes empty envelopes with instructions for layout, n.d. [c.1954-1955]

Folder 2: Original illustrations (scraper-board drawings) by Joan Hassall, c.1955. Also includes papers relating to the acquisition of the drawings by the Opies from an antiquarian bookseller, 1954, and to later use of the illustrations in a book on Joan Hassall as well as for her portrait at the Art Workers Guild, 1984-1986.

Bundle containing printing blocks of illustrations by Joan Hassall used for The Oxford Nursery Rhyme Book: 'The Twelve Days of Christmas' (pp. 198-199, with type); cat and mouse (p. 170), Christmas pudding and question mark.
