Title
Certaine remembrances touching the two great offices of the senescalcy or high stewardship of England and of her majesties house
Shelfmark
MS. Tanner 14, fol. 80
Summary
At the end of this treatise is annexed the following letter, "Sir, I have satisfied your request in copying the premisses: but I take the first part more ambitious than true; it hath reference to the government of Normandy, whereof I can say nothing, nor to Mr. Recorders booke, the which I never saw, nor know what credit or authority it beareth: I know no jurisdiction but in, of, from, and under her majesty. If any presume otherwise he shall not have me to runn with him. Examples may be either stories falsified, or not imitable; neither are we to judge of examples. Best is, as well the high-stuardship as the earldome are in her majesties hands: who, I doubt not but if such jurisdiction be annexed thereto, she will be advised before she pass them without jurisdiction limited."
