Summary

"Itinerarium Mundii, that is, a memoriall or sundry relations of certaine voiages, journeies, ettc., passed and performed into some parts of England. Holland, Fraunce, Spain, Italie, Turky, East India, China, the ilands of St. Laurence," i.e. Madagascar, "Sumatra, ettc., to the south and east parts of the world, from 1611 to 1639; also vnto some parts of Denmarck, Prussia, Polonia, and Moscovia or Russia, to the north side of the world, from 1639 to 1648; by Peter Mundy."

Closely written, and illustrated, firstly, with maps of the world, Europe, Italy, France and Asia, engraved by Henry Hondius in 1630–1631, of Savoy, engraved by Judocus Hondius, and of Turkey; and, secondly, with a large number of pen and ink sketches, drawn with great spirit, of places, vessels, animals, processions, methods of torture, costumes, etc., as well as a table of Chinese characters.

A preface, table of contents and index are prefixed, together with the following engravings:

a portrait of Thomas Candyssh, (or Cavendish,) who sailed round the world in 1586–1588, engraved by Jodocus Hondius;

a portrait of sir Fr. Drake, æt. 43, engraved by Thomas le Leu at Paris from a picture by Jo. Rabel;

and an engraving by W. Hollar, 1653 (?), of a man of war with 14 guns on the larboard side.

There are also inserted engravings, at fol. 135b, of the town of Macao, and at fol. 186 of a large tun at Amsterdam.

At fol. 208b. follows an "Appendix, somwhatt concerning the former relationes, as allsoe matter of exercise and recreation after the reading of soe many tedious voyages and weary journies; Penrin," 4 Feb 1649.
