Title

A Chronicle of England, ending with the death of Henry v in 1422

Shelfmark

MS. Bodl. 754

Summary

A Chronicle of England, imperfect at beginning, ending with the death of Henry v in 1422. One leaf at the beginning is lost, and one after fol. 9, and fol. 43, but the first is represented by a rather later copy (fol. 1, cf. 22). The first words of fol. 1 are 'Howe this lande was cawlled Albyon and by what encheson it wase so named. In the noble land of Syrrye ther wase a noble kynge ... Dyoclecian'; the text ends, on an imperfect leaf, 'he was noble entyred at Westminster on whose soule ... Amen . Explicit'

This chronicle agrees fairly closely with the 'Cronicles of Englond' printed by Caxton in 1480, and so may be termed an English Brute chronicle.
