Provenance
Chester, Cheshire, Benedictine abbey of St Werburg: 'Fuit olim ex monasterii Cestriae' according to Langbaine (Bodl. MS Langbaine 6, p. 60), who catalogued the manuscript when it was Super A Art.81. Now rebound, s. xix, the inscription no doubt lost in rebinding: it was perhaps 'Ex monasterio Cestrie' as in BL Royal 4 E.viii, etc. No old flyleaves. (MLGB3: evidence from an ex-libris inscription or note of gift to an institution).
Possibly King Henry VIII, to judge from the description of the binding and the probable form of the lost inscription. Queen's College, Oxford (cf. Thomas James in Queen's College 62 E 6 (Opera Anselmi), against beginning of De officiis, note written in 1612). (MLGB3)
Bodley 843 was rebound in s. xix and contains now no evidence of its provenance. Langbaine records that it was 'olim monasterii Cestriae' (Bodl. MS Langbaine 6, p. 60). (MLGB3)
