Fine 'fere humanistica' script, attributed to Michael de Salvaticis (see under Provenance).

Decoration

One reactangular miniature: the Stigmatization of St. Francis, his companion nearby outside a chapel, set in a lanscape with mountains, trees, bushes, a river, and animals; with a three-sided foliate border, including the Redeemer in a small roundel in the upper border, and the Virgin and Child seated on the ground in a larger roundel in the lower border (fol. 1r). (Pächt and Alexander ii. 464, pl. XLVI)

Binding

Straight-grained dark blue morocco, the upper cover stamped in gilt with the Coke crest; the spine lettered in gilt 'BIBRACHI | ITINERUM | ÆTERNITATI | ET | ALIORUM | OPERA | – | MS. | SÆC. XV. | 154'.

Provenance

The scribe is identifiable with Michael de Salvaticis , active in Venice c.1430–60.

Bernardo Trevisan , Venice, early 18th century ((Hassall, 1970), 24 n. 11).

Bought by Thomas Coke , c. 1717.

Bookplate ' THOMAS WILLIAM COKE ' (1754–1842), and the signature 'Thos Wlm Coke' (fol. i verso); formerly Holkham Hall, MS. 154.
