Beg. "Solemne duties are not to bee performed but with serious resolutions."
On a fly-leaf at the beginning are the following inscriptions:
"Allthough this treatise bee every way incompleate, yet, wherby to make good the most apparent defects, I haue sent along with it, The returne of prayer, written by master Goodwin. And though that by perusing it, your ladishipp may more plainely see the defects of mine, yet I am not theirby the more discouriaged from relying on your ladishipps ffavour, or doubting of a free acceptance."
