(3/1, fols. 1-48) letters from William Sidgwick (Mrs. E.W. Benson's father) to his mother, Mary, and Mary Crofts (later his wife), 1829-38, with (fols 11-12) a letter from his cousin James, 1830. Subjects include:
(fols. 3-14) his travels with James to Paris, Torino, Genoa, Rome, Naples, Venice, Berne, the Black Forest and Rotterdam
(fols. 5-48) his early career as curate of Rampside and master of Skipton School, his courtship of Mary Crofts, and his illness
(3/2, fols. 49-117) correspondence of Mary Sidgwick (Mrs. E.W. Benson's mother), including:
(fols. 83-5, 102-4, 107-8) correspondence with her children Henry and Mary
(fols. 58-82, 88-92) a series of detailed travel letters from Edward White Benson, describing his visits to Paris, Rome, Metz, Luxembourg, Trier and Cologne
