Inviting Peierls to accept a consultancy in the Theoretical Physics Division. He declined the invitation in 1960. Reasons are given in his autobiography (Bird of Passage, p. 324). When it was renewed in 1963, at a time when those involved in the original affair were no longer with the Authority, he reconsidered his position and accepted.
