Summary
The very great bulk of the correspondence was conducted while Synge was based at the Rowett Research Institute, Bucksburn, Aberdeenshire. He subsequently moved to the Food Research Institute, Norwich. Synge was awarded the 1952 Nobel Prize in Chemistry jointly with A.J.P. Martin for their invention of partition chromatography.
