'Incipit Breuiarium de consolacione reorum', a legal manual for the use of accused persons
Shelfmark
MS. Bodl. 988
Summary
'Incipit Breuiarium de consolacione reorum', a legal manual for the use of accused persons. It begins with a prayer, the author describing himself as 'legalis doctrine cultor'. Then follows a list of the 21 chapters ('Contra rescriptum', 'contra publicam scripturam', etc.), the text of chapter 1 beg. 'Rescriptum non valet si tacita ueritate et suggesta falsitate fuerit impetratum'; at end 'Explicit ... [long erasure] Morinaud', the scribe's name (?).
At fol. 99 follow some additions to the original treatise, the first of which is 'Addicio contra actorem': at the end is 'J. Mourinaud': two more additions follow, the latter being 'contra substitucionem uulgarem & de eius materia', with a diagram.
The rude drawing of a Crucifixion on fol. 98v, and other indications, show that the manual is for the use of a cleric.
(fols. ii-iii, 119-120) are leaves from a small 15th century psalter, and there are 15th century additions on (fols. 41v, 111v, etc.)
