The summary list and the section on Italian writing books were lent to A.F. Johnson, when he was preparing his list of Italian writing books for Signature (second series, no. 10). These found their way into the British Library, from which photocopies have been obtained to complete the manuscript here. The papers comprise:

(fols. 20-294) writing books by language

(fols. 295-380) catalogue sheets of books sold or recatalogued

(fols. 381-400) lists of writing books and authors

(fols. 401-504) draft introduction by Pollard, with notes for biographies

(fols. 505-85) a list of writing books
