Summary
The typescripts were originally enclosed in a variety of paper wrappers in the following order:
(fols. 1-2) a James B. Pinker and Son wrapper formerly containing fols. 3-41
(fols. 3-4) a Pinker wrapper formerly containing fols. 5-8
(fols. 9-10) a Pinker wrapper formerly containing fols. 11-16
(fols. 17 and 26) two covers formerly stab-bound to enclose fols. 18-25
(fols. 42-43) a Pinker wrapper formerly containing fols. 44-114
The typescripts have been marked up throughout by a printer, with amendments in ink in Yeats' hand. The poems are also signed by him. There are additional (pencil) amendments in an unidentified hand in 'Upon a dying Lady' and in the typescripts of 'Four Years'. Texts comprise:
(fols. 5-8) 'More Songs of an Old [Pensioner] Countryman'
(fols. 11-16) 'All Souls' Night'
(fols. 18-25) 'Upon a dying Lady', with (fol. 27) a postcard from Jon Stallworthy to an unidentified recipient, 1961, discussing (fol. 28) a modern typescript (made by Stallworthy?), 'An unpublished fragment of "Upon a Dying Lady". Perhaps intended to be part II or III'
(fols. 31-41) 'Meditations in Time of Civil War'
(fols. 44-114) 'Four Years. 1887-1891', comprising:(fols. 44-75) a top copy typescript of sections I-XI (fols. 76-114) an untitled carbon of sections XII-XXI

Physical facet
The typescripts were enclosed in paper wrappers. The name of the literary agent Pinker has been scribbled out and labels 'A.P. Watt & Son' substituted (now fols. 8, 11, 18, 31b and 76b). A modern slipcase in which the manuscripts were housed has been discarded.
