Comprising detailed bibliographical descriptions by Lyell mainly of printed books of the 16th and 17th centuries in his own collection, with notes of their purchase between 1920 and 1937 and n.d. : found in disorder and now arranged in roughly alphabetical order, by heading, with large sections on (fols. 34-87) 'Index librorum prohibitorum' and (fols. 100-211) 'Spanish Armada' (partly used as the basis for his Oxford B. Litt. thesis, 1932, see MSS. Lyell empt. 64-5).
