Comprises:

Folder 1: letters from Kilwa, 13 Jan 1957-9 Sep 1959. Includes visit to Kilwa by Julius Nyerere (letter of 4 Feb 1959) and friendship with archaeologist Neville Chittick and his wife (1958-1959).

Folder 2: letters from Dar es Salaam, 16 Mar 1960-5 Dec 1963. Includes descriptions of Tanganyika Independence events (letters of 5 and 12 Dec 1961), excavating at Kilwa with the Chitticks and visit of Indira Gandhi (13 Sep 1961) and Tom Unwin's work with President Nyerere (letters of Jan-Mar 1963).

Folder 3: letters from Dar es Salaam, 21 Jan-1 Sep 1964. Includes detailed description of the Unwins' experience of the Tanganyika Revolt (letter of 21 Jan 1964) and their departure from Dar es Salaam (Jun-Sep 1964).

Folder 4: four letters to Sheila from Latham Leslie-Moore, the 'Sultan of M'Simbati', 1963-1965.
