Physical facet

4 part-books, copied in two pairs of music-books, stabbed and bound in marbled paper of two kinds. 50, 48, 47 and 52 leaves, respectively (17, 15, 14 and 17 blank at ends). Each was formerly 12 gatherings of 4 with end-papers. Watermarks: i and ii, Fool's Cap somewhat resembling Heawood 2087, countermark IB; iii and iv, Coat of Arms resembling Heawood 347, no initials, countermark N. Five staves to a page, marginal ruling at both edges. i and ii formerly had paper labels on front cover.

Custodial history

This item is part of the Music School collection of printed and manuscript music, which was originally bequeathed to the University of Oxford by William Heather (c 1563-1627), and gradually added to until the end of the 18th century.

Acquisition

The collection was transferred to the Bodleian in 1885.
