Binding

Parisian binding, 16th century, for Cardinal Antoine de Granvelle, with his emblem of a two-headed crowned eagle at each corner of the central panel; cf. Besançon MS. 484.

Acquired by the Bodleian in 1804

François Perrenot de Granvelle, 1559-1607; identifiable in the 1607 inventory of his books at Besançon (Marie-Claire Waille. La bibliothèque des Granvelle : inventaire des livres et manuscrits présents au Palais Granvelle en 1607 : Edition du Ms. 1627, f. 38-80, de la Bibliothèque municipale de Besançon, Besançon : Académie de Besançon et de Franche-Comté, 2017; not seen in full).

Nicolas-Joseph Foucault, 1643–1721; acquired at the dispersal of his library by:

Jacques Phillippe D'Orville of Amsterdam (1690–1751) (MS. D'Orville 302, p. 1).

Jean D'Orville, b. 1734, his son, by descent

Jean D'Orville, son of Jean, by descent
