13th century, end, or 14th century, early, Italian(as MS.): wood boards; brown leather, blind-tooled with sextuple (2 × 3) lines in lozenge patterns, spine diapered with triple lines; remains of four clasps with brown leather straps, of which two partially survive, and one catch-plate with ‘yh’s’ monogram; traces of 4+1 bosses on each cover, and (back cover) of a label-holder and inked title at upper centre and of a chain-staple at inside bottom edge. Repaired, with added gilt red-leather title-label, 18th century, Italian; further repaired, 20th century, Bodleian. c. 413–420 280 c. 55–60 (book closed).
A notarial document on the back paste-down witnesses the sale of this book (the first of a two-volume set) and of its lost mate, probably already thus bound, in 1330 at Montefalcone (Appennino?).

Actum apud Montefalconiam in domo dicti magistri Nuti, presentibus Cola Gallinari de Monanca et Maffeo Johannini de Montefalco testibus. Et ego Andreas de Speblo prout apostolici his dictis omnibus presens interfui et rogatus scripsi et publicavi.
